France-Aveyron self catering farmhouse near to Naucelle, Pautounho is a typical example of an Aveyronais farmstead, sympathetically restored to provide comfortable three-bedroomed accommodation. Its tranquil, secluded setting, with uninterrupted views of rolling green Rouergue farm and woodland, is a mere ten-minute drive from shops and services. Between Tarn and Lot, the Aveyron remains very french and unspoilt.
Believed to be at least 250 years old, Pautounho is a perfect example of a traditional Rouergat farm-house, the living accommodation on the first floor, accessed by a wooden front door at the top of a flight of stone steps. The ground floor, now converted into two bedrooms, a bathroom and atrium, housed hay in summer and cattle in winter. Its restoration, creating a comfortable, modern habitat, has sought to keep Pautounho’s simple, vernacular spirit alive. Internal accommodation includes a large sitting room with TV/video, DVD & Hi Fi and a generous kitchen/diner. Outside, the south-facing verandah offers a panorama of the Rouergue. Although rural tranquillity makes Pautounho ideal to relax, shed anxieties and recharge batteries, the area affords a wealth of interests and activities.
The fields and deep wooded valleys teem with wild bird, animal and plant life and provide great walking, from gentle strolls to serious hikes. Most rivers in the area are trout streams and a single permit entitles you to fish almost all of them in season. Prehistoric sites abound; the nearest village, Sauveterre-de-Rouergue, is a perfect mediaeval Bastide; the Lac du Pareloup is a centre for watersports of all kinds and climbers, hangliders and paragliders will love the huge limestone bluffs of the Massif Central. Golfers have a choice of four courses within easy reach and art lovers can take advantage of the local link with Toulouse Lautrec as well as galleries in nearby Rodez and Albi showing contemporary art.
